Pottery kiln for home
Specs and sources awaiting check
Will this kiln run off a 13A plug?
Worked example
For two example kilns, 2.5 kW and 3.6 kW:
- 2.5 kW: About 10.9 A, which is within a 13A plug's rating. Only use a plug if the maker's manual says this kiln is a plug-in model.
- 3.6 kW: About 15.7 A, which is more than a 13A plug can supply. It needs its own circuit (the kind makers list as 16A), fitted by a registered electrician.

Editor: batch 1 hero article. Gap: kiln retailers own these searches and tie advice to their stock; nobody independent answers "will it fit my socket, my room and my budget". Lead with fit: supply, space, ventilation. Spec-based only: "We haven't tested these machines; we compare published specs and official guidance."
The short answer
Editor: three checks before you buy: supply (link the plug checker), size (link the size picker), place (clearances and ventilation from the maker's manual). No figures unless they come through a sources.json marker or a maker spec in machines/kilns.json.
Worked example
Editor: one maker's mugs-and-bowls scenario run through C4 then C3, copying the tool's numbers once specs are verified.
What the maker and official guidance say
Editor: quote HSE on kilns and ventilation and the maker's manual on clearances, linked, with checked dates. Electrician signpost for any new supply. No wiring detail.
What to buy
Editor: criteria table (max temperature, chamber litres, supply, controller, warranty per maker page). Any "best" heading must state its criteria. Rows only from machines/kilns.json.

Tools for this
- Kiln size picker: what size kiln do I need? From how many pieces you make, how big they are and how often you'll fire, work out the chamber space and shelves you need, then compare kilns on the same terms.
- Workshop planner: which maker machine fits my home?Tell us the crafts you want, the room, its ventilation and your sockets. See which machines fit, what to check before you buy, and print a workshop plan card.
